The Aperture Academy has a number of photo contests each year. The big one is the Aperture Academy “Extraordinary Exposures” photo contest. The entry fee is $20.00 and prizes are awarded for the top-3 finishers. A couple of honorable mention photos are named as well. In 2012 I entered 10 photos (the max for the entry fee) and crossed my fingers that I’d come up a winner. Winners were announced well after the normal date but in the end a photo of sunrise at Fishercap Lake at Glacier National Park showed up as one of the two honorable mentions. There was no notification form the Aperture Academy of the status entry that got an honorable mention.
Like other photo contests where a photo was a finalist but didn’t win the competition outright, there will likely be nothing that comes of it aside from seeing a photo on the Aperture Academy website listed as one of the top-5 in the Extraordinary Exposures photo competition. Only time will tell if it brings anything more than the gratification of placing 4th in the competition. Little if any information is listed about any of the winners and there is no link provided to the websites of any of the winners.
